Magellan Navigation is privately owned manufacturer of GPS products and technology and mapping software and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California.  Magellan came up with the first commercial GPS unit that was handheld in the late 1980’s.

Magellan GPS produces several different types of GPS that are geared towards travel and automobiles.  The company has focused its GPS products into Consumer GPS products and Professional GPS products.  The professional GPS products are aimed at meeting the needs of land surveyors, marine surveying, and mobile mapping.

Magellan GPS consumer GPS products are mostly focused on meeting the needs for the everyday person who uses their GPS systems for traveling in a car and getting from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible.
